Trio jailed for “frenzied” knife attack in Forest Gate youth centre

Three teenagers from Redbridge and Newham have been jailed for carrying out a frenzied knife attack at a youth centre in Forest Gate.

The trio, armed with knives, cycled up to the 17-year-old victim in Woodgrange Road in October 2018.

He was chased and cornered in a corridor by the attackers, who stabbed him in his head, back, chest, groin and thighs.

The boy needed emergency surgery to save his life after the brutal attack.

Investigators analysed CCTV and quickly identified Hasnain Talib, Dantai Demontagnac, and Doane Young as suspects.

They were all arrested and charged, and were convicted at Harrow Crown Court in July.

Appearing there again on Friday, 13 September, the three of them were jailed for their roles.

Detective Constable Ben Harland said: “The ferocity of this attack was truly shocking and it is only by a combination of luck, and the skill of the medical teams at hospital, that this incident did not have fatal consequences.

“Talib, Demontagnac and Young went out that day armed with knives and with the intention of causing serious harm to someone they perceived as a rival.

“They showed no hesitation in pursuing their victim into a youth centre where children and other members of the public were present to carry out their assault.”

 Talib, 19, of Hatfield Close, Barkingside, was sentenced to 23 years for attempted murder.

Demontagnac, 18, of Arthingworth Street, Stratford, was also given to 23 years plus three years on licence for the same offence.

Young, 19, of Barking Road, Plaistow, was jailed for 12 years for grievous bodily harm with intent.

DC Harland added: “This attack has had a devastating impact on the victim and his family but I hope these sentences bring them some comfort and ensured that justice has been served.”
