The strike on the DLR that was set to cause travel disruption over the weekend of the London Marathon has been called off.
Thousands of people were facing travel issues with the strike due to begin tomorrow, but the Mayor of London has confirmed it will now not go ahead.
In a statement the General Secretary of the RMT Union Mick Cash said: “After thirteen days of intensive talks RMT’s negotiating team has been able to secure significant progress on the key issues of the threat to jobs and conditions from outsourcing and a range of grievances around the principles of workplace justice. That progress has been enough to enable our executive to suspend the action and further discussions will now take place moving forwards with the union remaining vigilant as ever and we remain in dispute.
“I want to pay tribute to RMT members on the KAD DLR contract whose unity and determination, backed up by rock solid industrial action, has been the platform on which the progress in talks has been secured. Our members on Docklands Light Railway have shown once again that militant and campaigning industrial trade unionism is the key to securing workplace justice.”
Just out of a meeting with @TfL commissioner Mike Brown and pleased to confirm that the @LondonDLR strike planned for this weekend has been called off.
