London Fire Brigade were called to a two-storey building in Chigwell Road yesterday (Monday, 15 May) afternoon at around 2.20pm.
One man left the building before the Brigade arrived and a second man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The blaze took around half an hour to be brought under control by fire crews from Woodford, Walthamstow and Hainault stations.
Most of the flat on the first floor of the mixed-use building was damaged by fire.
The cause is under investigation by the Brigade and the Metropolitan Police Service.
