Work set to begin on Upminster station upgrade

Train operator c2c is starting an £800,000 upgrade of Upminster station next week.

The three-month project involves completely rebuilding the platform 1 ticket office and entrance from the station car park.

This is the first step in a £17m plan to transform all the stations on the c2c route.

c2c Managing Director Julian Drury said: “This is the first step in our plan to completely transform the quality of service we offer customers at our stations, and to ensure they are ready for the expected growth in passengers over the next decade.

“We’re investing in every element of the station, from upgrading the buildings themselves to improving the facilities available for buying tickets and other modern-day commuter essentials like coffee.”

For the duration of the work at Upminster, customers will still be able to access Platform 1 directly from the car park during the morning peak via the side entrance, to ensure they will not face a detour at the busiest time.

Customers with accessibility requirements will also be able to use an intercom to gain access at any time.
